Music

            Music was a big part in everyday life. It was mostly popular during the celebrations and festivals. Music was usually played during the holidays and special parties. The music made everyone joyful during birthdays and weddings. Lovers' music was played on Valentines Day and weddings. This type of music was called chivaree. Cheery music was played with crescendos. Some instruments were recorders, horns, trumpets, whistles, drums, and bells. On Mayday, dancers danced to high pitched music. It is believed to awaken the hibernating spirits and and announce that spring is here. On Christmas bells brought good news of Jesus' birth. They ate to the sound of traditional music. Sometimes they played music from a platform or stage at the end of the Great Hall. The reason for music at meal time was to help the digestion of food, not to bring delightment. The music was important during celebrations, holidays, and even eating.
